Feminist Geopolitics of the South Caucasus: What is at Stake?

This event aims to shed light on the ongoing political dynamics at stake from a feminist perspective, offering a critical understanding of the region's interlinked challenges and opportunities.

Panelists:

Natia Chankvetadze is a Ph.D. candidate at the Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution, George Mason University. She also holds the AAUW International Fellowship at the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies, Harvard University (2023-204). Natia has been a Teaching Fellow at the Social Studies program (Harvard University) and a Graduate Lecturer at GMU’s Carter School. She has led and implemented research projects on everyday peace, conflict transformation, trade facilitation, youth engagement, trauma narratives, track I dialogue within Georgia’s context. Natia co-authored a book „Women During and After War“, as well as a handbook on Peace and Conflict Transformation in Georgia. She has an MA in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Manchester.

Sevinj Samadzade is a PhD researcher at Ghent University, investigating interaction between geopolitics and the social welfare provision from a critical feminist perspective. She has gained her Mlitt on Middle East, Caucasus and Central Asian Security Studies from the University of St. Andrews. Both in the capacity of an activist and a researcher, Sevinj is specialized in Feminist International Relations and security, with a particular focus on post-Soviet geopolitics, social work, and movements in the South Caucasus region. She has over a decade of experience working with various civil society groups in Azerbaijan and Georgia, concentrating on the nexus of gender, peace, and security in the region.

Christina Soloyan is a researcher and a journalist from Armenia. She possesses an MSc degree in Conflict Studies from London School of Economics and Political Science and a Certificate in Mediation and Conflict Resolution from University of San Diego. She is a program co-director at Imagine Center for Conflict Teansformation.

Lala Darchinova is a doctoral researcher at the European University Institute. She holds an LL.M. in Comparative Constitutional Law from Central European University. Her research interests include legal and political imaginations, utopianism, feminist, decolonial and critical theory. Lala has been involved in peacebuilding and conflict analysis for the past six years. Currently, she is affiliated with the Imagine Dialogue and Conflict Transformation Center.
